Michelle Charters comes from the American Heart Association where she worked on a federal grant improving health policies. She was an Instructor at Eastern Virginia Medical School in the Department of Pediatrics, a staff member working with health information at Tidewater Community College, and a consultant for CoalitionsWork, a training organization based in the Hampton Roads region of eastern Virginia that is dedicated to building coalitions and partnerships for community health. She served as the Director of Project Immunize Virginia, a statewide immunization coalition. Working closely with the Virginia Department of Health, she facilitated, coordinated, and evaluated coalition activities that promote timely immunizations across the lifespan. She has experience in the areas of obesity, asthma, and coalition management and participated in the Healthy-By-Default training in March at UCLA. With over 20 years of experience in health non-profit organizations, Ms. Charters has held management positions in program development and fundraising with the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, and the National Kidney Foundation. She has also worked extensively in volunteer management, supporting special event committees to governing boards. She holds a Bachelor’s in Business from Miami University in Ohio as well as Masters in Public Health from the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina.
